Only 5 days until Christmas! I wish we had some young children in our home still so we could have more fun with the Season. Oh well, we have visits planned so we'll have to hold out until then.
I finished the repairs to the '05 Mazda after it had met an elk on a country road. It looks like there are no headlights because they're not yet installed. Rest assured that they're now in place as well as the bumper trim, etc.
I was held up more than two days just trying to find plastic trim fasteners from the local auto parts stores to hold the inner fenders in place. But now the car is delivered and they're happy to have it back. When I got the car to my shop I pulled a few tufts of elk fur from the seam in the hood and saved them so that I could make elk clones later. You never know when you'll be needing one.
I was favored to have Tim & his beautiful wife Diane join us for the annual church Christmas party last night. Tim is the now-famous Tim of Tim's Repair in Sunnyside, WA (509 839-5139). We had a good meal, listened to the little kids sing to us and re-enact the nativity story for us and then were shocked to see the real Santa show up and put the more adventurous kids on his knee. Tim couldn't believe his own eyes when he got a glimpse of The Real Santa, take a look at the picture! I happen to know this real Santa as a personal friend and have been admiring his terrific white beard blossoming since August, as he groomed himself for the role. His wife made his outfit from red velvet and spared no expense to make it top notch. He was great. I didn't get a chance to sit on his lap because Tim and Diane were leaving and they were our ride home.
I put this sentiment sticker on a small plate that used to have the stock 3-speed gear shifter poking through it. I filled the hole and painted it body color. Since this is a shared project between father & son I thought it would be a nice touch. We'll see if anyone notices it.
Hopefully, this video of the dashboard will load up for you and you'll be able to see how it's looking. I'm still missing a couple of small detail items necessary to make the dome light, glove box light, radio and a few other things work properly, but it looks like it's complete. I recently decided to paint the shift knob, Gary agreed so now it's 2015 Corvette Yellow!
FOR SALE: My friend Kevin has a '56 GMC 1/2 ton pickup at my place and he's interested in selling it. If you're as interested in owning it as he is in selling it, send me an email at 2desertclassics@gmail.com or phone me at 509 830-4314. It's a long-bed stepside with an independent front suspension kit manufactured by Speedway Motors that includes power disc brakes and power rack & pinion steering. It's also got an LT1 fuel injected engine and 4L60E tranny and a bunch of custom made aluminum parts that go with the engine. He'll sell it as it sits, or running or finished. Of course if there's to be done, we're happy to do it at Desert Classics in Outlook Washington.
Thanks for looking at my blog and in case I don't get back to the world wide web for a few days, here's wishing you a Merry Christmas!
Doug
