"GONNA FIX IT UP SOME DAY"

Greetings!

I just wanted to make a quick post to show a picture of one of the "underutilized" Corvettes in my neighborhood. I drive by this third generation orphan once in a while, when I come home a certain way. It's been there for years. There's another one on the property also, white or silver. The owner told me that his son had prepared a fresh engine for the white/silver Corvette as a senior project, but since then he's been looking for a muscle car to put the Corvette engine into. He must have gotten side tracked, because the engine is still sitting in the barn, and neither car has budged in years. I offered to put the rebuilt engine back into the silver car in trade for the Maroon one, so he's trying to work something out, but I'd really like to own a Corvette again. This one might be a worthwhile project to get it back on the road again.
I came across another, earlier Corvette this week. It's been worked over pretty well and has fresh paint. The interior looks like it's off to a good start and the engine is mostly stock looking. If the owner will sell, I have a friend in Idaho who is a reader of my blog and he's looking for a nice '60 like this.
Sometimes I find a car or truck that has been sitting idle for a long time and I'll stop and ask about it. Many of you have done this. Sometimes the owner is willing to part with it, sometimes not. But, sometimes the owner tells me that he's "going to fix it up one of these days", so it's not for sale. A word to you guys who say this:

Maybe you mean it, or maybe you just don't know what to do with the car, or how much it's worth. Maybe it used to belong to an uncle or father, but if you really intend to get to it, show some progress before too long or move it along to someone who will restore it or update it so it can be back on the blacktop where it belongs. Someday you'll be dead and your heirs will sell it to the first dude who shows up with cash, or they'll junk it to get it off the property.

If you're one of those guys you can contact me to discuss having it professionally updated by Desert Classics. Or, if think you want to sell, I'll tell you if I'm interested in buying it or not. If I can't buy it, maybe I can post a picture of it here on the blog to help you find the right buyer.
I used to think that if I found an old car/truck/motorcycle, I had to find the money to buy it and work it. Not so any more. I'd rather do the work for somebody else and then move on to the next project. I don't have to own everything!. That's what Desert Classics is about: doing what you really intended to do with that old rig if you had the time, skills and tools.

Here's a good deal I'd like to pass along: a customer gave me a deposit to buy a brand new independent front suspension kit for his classic truck. He then had some bad luck come his way and through no fault of his own he's had to liquidate nearly all his vehicles. I've still got the IFS kit and he wants me to sell it for him at a discount. It will fit many different models of trucks and perhaps some cars as well. Contact me at: 2DesertClassics@gmail.com and I'll give you more particulars and pricing. The best discount will go the hobbyist who has a rig that they'd like to develop and they bring it to Desert Classics to have the work done for them. The link below will show you the Speedway IFS kit I have in boxes ready to be installed:

Don't let those old cars and trucks decay any longer. Look around your fields, garages and barns and start thinking about what you really want that rig to look like. And then email me...

Doug
