Greetings. I'm getting closer to painting the '79 El Camino but having second thoughts about repainting it the factory Code 11 White. Although I have planned on painting it white with a pair of wide rally stripes on the hood (AND have approval for the decision from my fashion bug daughter), I've been looking for a certain shade of red/orange/gold. The color had to remind me of Butterscotch. I've considered Ford "Sunset" but I'm not sure it's the visual statement I'm looking for. I don't know if I saw the color once before, or if it was just a shade I had been imagining, but I thought it would really add some hot sauce to the casserole.
While driving home from Zion National Park in Utah to our home in Puckerbrush Washington, True Blue Tammy & I were on the lookout for this color. Believe me, the long drive through Northern Utah and Southern Idaho is so boring that we welcomed the assignment. We had some success and saw a few cars bearing the color I'm looking for. One was on a new Honda Fit I passed at 80mph. I had the presence of mind to take a photo of it as I blew it's doors off and I'll post it here for your preview. I don't want something to look too orange, or at all brown, and it has to complement my warm tone interior.

Another was on this Honda Element, but since they're both Hondas, I'm going to assume that the color is the same. I realize that I'm not presenting the Honda color very well when I shoot the picture through the windshield.
Just for the sake of fairness, here's a much cleaner image of the Honda Element, and it's not too bad - a lot like the image I had imagined. I'll have to see it for myself in the sunlight.
The third color candidate was spotted in the opposing traffic lane and it went by so quickly that I wasn't able to photograph it. I noticed that it was a new-looking Dodge truck, so after a search on the internet I found a forum post that showed a guy's new Dodge with the color well illustrated in his posted images. The official Dodge website also had images but these from the Ram Forum were more appealing. I'll give credit for the borrowed images here: http://www.ramforum.com/f17/2013_copperhead_pearl-32429/. As you can see by the hypertext the color is called Copperhead Pearl and since I'm giving credit, the owner has a screen name of "The Crow 1994". Nice truck dude. I'll post one of the images below.
I've got a set of nice chrome wheels that may look pretty good with the color selection and I may add a paint pin stripe along the side of the body in black to tie it to the interior and to the rally stripes on the hood (and maybe on the roof and tailgate as well).
That leaves me with a couple of quarts of white basecoat/clearcoat paint without a home. But then, I've got an 21' aluminum 1956 Lone Star Cruisemaster, a boat made in Texas with a cute little cabin that needs paint and it just may look great in that Code 11 White.
