CAR SHOW CATEGORIES

This weekend is the 2013 Vintiques NW Nationals Rod Run in Yakima Washington and all my car guy buddies are talking about it. We, the gearheads that will attend, fall into a few categories:
  • Some of the guys have completed cars they’re going to display in the show. They pay to enter and they moved in Thursday night, for the most part.
  • Others have completed cars that they’re just going to drive to and from the show and leave it parked in the parking lot. There’s quite a show in the parking lot every year!
  • Many of the guys have unpainted, unfinished but totally roadworthy cars that they'll be taking to the show and boldly parking next to the finished cars that have actual paint & chrome. There is no shame in this. Some of these unfinished, primered cars exhibit superior engineering and execution to those in the display areas.
  • There are a few car guys who will haul out the "barn find" '63 Chevy Pickup that was hidden in dust a month ago and power park it along the road outside the show with a "FOR SALE" sign in the window.
  • Another category are the guys who just take the family car loaded with the smiling wife and bug-eyed kids and the whole family enjoys the show together.
  • The last category are for those who can't get their car running well enough to make it all the way to the fairgrounds, or it leaks so much oil that they can't afford to drive it. Maybe they have the alternator temporarily held in place with a coat hanger and the seats are not bolted to the floor. This is my category. I bum a ride to the show with others, or drive another guy's hot rod because he wants to put two cars in the show.
One day I'll have the experience of having a top notch hot rod parked inside the fairgrounds, but it's not going to be this year. See you at the Car Show!
