YELLOW VESTS & YELLOW VETTES

Greetings!

Wildfires burned in the northern part of the state recently and our skies were filled with smoke. We learned that just in the communities of Brewster and Pateros alone more than 100 homes were destroyed by fire and others damaged. This past week my energetic and compassionate wife and I volunteered to join many others to travel to the stricken areas and render service to those who suffered losses.

We traveled for 3 hours to reach Brewster and spent the daylight hours with chain saws, rakes and shovels in hand. One woman's home survived but the fire had burned everything on all four sides of her house, melting the vinyl siding into great blobs of goo. She was very grateful for our effort and came out onto the porch to visit with us as we worked.

Another woman lost her 100 year old home and attached shop to the flames. She showed me one of the survivors amid the blackened landscape: a restored 1957 Chevy 2-dr hardtop. The flames had come so close behind it that it melted the backup lenses and peeled the paint off the trunk. We were beat by the end of the day and barely had enough energy to pose with some of the volunteers from our neighborhood.

Back home in the shop, I finished installing the new brakes on the S-10 rear axle in Gary's '51 Chevy. I had also installed the parking brake pedal assembly from the same donor S-10 and routed the cable from the foot pedal to the brake drums. Unfortunately, the cable was about 2" too short to make the distance, so I'm going to have to make an adjuster to connect the front cable to the rear cable. I guess the S-10 and the '51 were nearly the same length. The rear axle brake lines routed from the brake T to the passenger side of the car originally. The S-10 was on the driver's side. I decided to re-route the brake lines along the driver's side with all new lines right up to the new master cylinder.
The father/son team owners of the coupe have decided on a color that they're committed to now. It's the Velocity Yellow that you can find on the 2015 Corvette.
I'm thinking of painting a pair of pin stripes down the side in black and purple. A good way to predetermine if going to look good with the stripes is to do a sample.
Here's the glove box door. Maybe I'll add stripes to it and take it to Gary's office for a preview. What do you think?
