Greetings!
It's been a busy month for me with my son Joey graduating from the Marine Corps boot camp and then coming home for a 10-day liberty. He and his friend Gabe enlisted together and were buddies all through the 13 week ordeal. Tammy & I traveled to San Diego to watch the graduation ceremony. Very impressive! I heard about some things the Drill Instructors said to the boys and I can't quite understand how those insulting and demeaning statements can make them better Marines.
They just left for San Diego again to continue their training. We'll probably see him again in a few weeks. We're very proud of the young man. Following his training, the Marine Corps will let him leave to serve a mission for the Mormon Church for two years and then complete his military obligation after returning. That'll mean he's going to be about 22 years old before he can have a girlfriend. But Tammy & I can help while he's away by picking out a nice young lady he can marry when he gets back. We only have his best interests at heart...
I've finished fabricating the stereo/air conditioning control panel for Gary's '51 Chevy and have sanded the dash, primed and sanded again and it's ready for paint.
I painted a few of the dash parts today and discovered that the color is dead when applied over light grey primer. I tried it again with a white undercoat and the yellow came to life! I'll post some pictures when they're dry and out of the spray booth.
While I was in the spray booth I put some color on my friend Bill's Honda 750 motorcycle tank. It's a silver base with the stock Honda candy red over the top. He's a local man who's been a friend for over 20 years. I painted a '57 Ranchero for him before my hair was grey. He's restoring this '72 Honda and doing a great job at it. I can't wait to see it and post pictures on Doug's Drugs.

While stripping Grace (the '68 Camaro) I came across two of the seat mounting bolts stuck in the floor. I had to cut the bolts off to get the seats out. Then I drilled the bolts out and restored the threads using a helicoil. In the picture above I'm tapping the hole for the new 5/16" helicoil threads and the picture below illustrates what the helicoil threads look like before insertion. Now that the two holes are restored, the seat can be safely mounted to the floor and it won't move around when Grace gets goosed.
My next post should show some pictures of the painted dash on the '51. Once that's done, I can proceed to do the final wiring and mount the A/C and all the other hidden components under the dash. I can't wait to take this baby for a ride!
Doug
